May 2010 - TOTE Racing Centre - Tasman Park, LauncestonWorking closely with Fallon Electrical Services and GM Poles, Pierlite Australia designed a world class lighting system that permits TV coverage of night time gallop meetings. The primary Light Technical Parameters achieved were an average initial vertical illuminance of 1500 - 2000 lux over specified sections of track width, which was increased to 2000 lux in areas that are most distant from the main camera location. Additional lighting was also provided for the photo-finish, and for critical areas under steward's observation. As well as the thoroughbred track, the site also accommodates a Harness and Greyhound track, which required carefully planning to replace/reuse some of the existing infrastructure to provide an economical and clean installation profile. Seven existing poles were stripped of existing floods, disassembled, transported to new locations and repopulated with new cross-arms and luminaires. The scheme uses a total of 747 x Philips MVF403 ArenaVision floodlights, and 38 x columns generally ranging from 22-35hm. The Harness track uses 244 x floodlights and the greyhound track x 73, for a total of 1064 x 2kW floodlights, making it the largest single sports lighting installation in Australia. The track's close proximity to surrounding properties and roadways required special design consideration to ensure spill light was kept within specification and to achieve this objective the use of over 300 specially developed louvres were required. Opening night was April 2010, with many top jockeys commenting that this facility is now one of the best in Australia. For more information please contact your local Pierlite Branch. |

May 2010 - George Street, Sydney AustraliaWho said weatherproof fluorescent products are boring? To add some fun into a relatively traditional walkway, Pierlite Australia was invited by the lighting design team at Arup's to create a weatherproof fluorescent which was capable of incorporating a DALI control system, linked to a movement sensor. With the luminaire choice of the Pierlite BWPT series, the outcome of this challenge allowed the designer an opportunity to create an installation called 'the barcode'. The 'Barcode' effect created a digital shadow of light which follows a person as they walk through the walkway, 'scanning them' through the use of movement sensors and during the day the process was reversed.
